The academic year 2012-13 was inaugurated on the 29th
of June. Morning Star Regional Seminary is proud to have 23 new students for Philosophy
and 37 for Theology, taking the total strength of the students to 185. Also the
staff is joined by four new members.
The day began by gathering around the altar in sharing
communion with the Lord. Rt. Rev. Salvadore Lobo, the Vice President of the Governing
Board of MSR+C was the main celebrant, joined by Rt. Rev. Clement Tirkey, Rt. Rev.
Cyprian Monis, Rt. Rev. Stephen Lepcha, Rt. Rev. Joseph Suren Gomes and host of
Fathers. This was followed by an inauguration which began with the lighting of
the lamp. Rev. Fr. Patrick Walsh SJ, the Rector of MSR+C, welcomed all present.
The President of the Governing Board, Most Rev Thomas D’Souza, was away in Rome
to receive Pallium from the Holy Father on this very day. On his behalf Rt.
Rev. Salvadore Lobo declared the academic Year 2012-13 open. Since this is the
year of Faith, Rt. Rev. Cyprian Monis gave the opening address on “Porta Fidei”
(The door of Faith), a recent evangelical of the Holy Father Benedict XVI. Dr.
Rev. Father John D. Romus, the Dean of Theology, presented a paper on the
topic, “The Theological Principles of Vatican II in the Context of Modernity”. It
was a scholarly presentation that appealed to all the listeners. After a short
tea break, the Governing Board of the Bishops led by Rt. Rev. Salvadore Lobo met
the resident students in the auditorium. The program ended with a sumptuous
fellowship meal.
